JAMES ELDIN REED, an international historian trained at Harvard, is one of the most seasoned American observers of Canada and Canadian-American relations. In addition to

He is past President of the Boston Branch of the Canadian Institute of International Affairs, and a senior member of the Canada Seminar at Harvard. Most recently he has held a Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Public Policy in Canada. “Extremely readable and provocative,” in the words of one reviewer, he is the author of several works on American civilization and foreign affairs, including a major study of American relations with China. DEBORAH ADDIS is President of
Addis & Reed Consulting, Inc., in Boston. She has served on the Boards of the New England-Canada Business Council and the Canadian Institute of International Affairs in Boston, and has long been active in the Global Business Alliance of New England. She has extensive experience as an editor, and has published numerous articles under her own byline in
The Boston Globe,
The Boston Business Journal,
American Banker, and
The National Law Journal. As a consultant she concentrates on the management and marketing of nonprofit organizations and professional firms. She began her career in government, working as press secretary to the Ohio Attorney General and then to Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis. In her more recent work as a public affairs consultant, she has testified before the House Judiciary Committee in Washington. NATHANIEL GUILD, Financial Editor of
The American Canada Watch, is a financial analyst and money manager based in Concord, Massachusetts. He is the author of The Public Money Manager's Handbook (Crain, 1981). A graduate of Harvard College and the Sloan School of Management at M.I.T., he is currently President of
Short Alert, an investment research service for institutions. His particular strength as a financial writer lies in his combination of an eye for long-term, fundamental trends in the global economy together with the instincts of an investigative reporter. For
The American Canada Watch he researched and wrote the regular
Canada Investment Letter, which included path-breaking articles on gold and other precious metals (including palladium), the Canadian currency, Canadian bonds, and the Bre-X scandal. He also contributed memorable editorial caricatures of key figures in Canadian public life, including The Rt. Hon. Brian Mulroney, sometime Prime Minister Kim Campbell, The Honourable Preston Manning of Alberta, and Quebec Premier Lucien Bouchard.
